Was not suited by conditions last time out and raced out wide before finally coming across to the rail. Possibly expended too much energy on softer ground than preferred so all things considered doing well to finish 2nd. This return to the sharper 6f on tapeta should play far more to his strengths and i don’t think we have seen the best of this one yet. The yards other runner Iconic Moment rates decent EW value at 20/1, Tiber Flow still has a bit to prove at this level but has the pick of the form along with the G2 winning Brad The Brief

Mostly Sunny 1pt win only 6/1 – A previous CD winner who looked to have taken a big step back in the right direction last time out when only narrowly denied at Goodwood by the full brother to Hadrianus who is only a 3 year old so gets in here with a big allowance but has been given a stiff task all the same by the handicapper. Had the beating of the re opposing Blow Your Horn in that CD win and despite the marked turn around in the weights of 9lb here I’m not sure that will be enough to overcome the 51/4 lengths beating he was given on that occasion. Yard come here in good form and are starting to gain a reputation in these sorts of races. Thermoscope rates the best of the res with Winterwatch offering possible EW value at 20/1 (5 places available with Skybet).

Post Impressionist 1pt win only 7/1 + Mountain Road 0.5pt EW 40/1 (7 places Skybet) – Post Impressionist ought to be open to bags of improvement if tuned up following 8 months off the track. Was a very comfortable winner when last seen and todays step up in trip should play even further to his strengths here. Up 8lb in the weights but that should not be enough to stop this one going well again here with his yard very much in form. Mountain Road would be foolish to dismiss from the bottom of the weights today returning to the AW. He is very lightly raced and clearly more suited by an AW surface than on turf. Ought to be able to get a good position if breaking well enough and could well have the race run to suit if getting a good pace to aim at. Omniscient is another who could improve further for the step up in trip here and is certainly bred to do so, comes here with the yard bang in form but his rise in weights and jump in class here could be his undoing on the back of a lay off. Zoffee, Calling The Wind and Rainbow Dreamer can all be expected to run a big race too given recent performances.

Very dangerous to discount however coming back here with his yard bang in form having ran very well when last seen here in behind a very progressive Badri who has since won from a 14lb higher mark. That run came over 6f but he is more than capable over this slightly longer trip as he proved last May when going down to another very progressive sort in Montassib who has also since won from a much higher mark (11lb). Much will depend on which version of this horse turns up, but he will be out of excuses should he not get a better run in today with the track looking perfect. Goes back in the hands of Rossa Ryan who is 1 win and 1 place from 3 rides on him. Safe Voyage rates a very strong chance as does Lord Of The Lodge but both look vulnerable from current marks.

That said he was not disgraced in his 2 attempts in grade 2 company and with his 3 year old allowance today and 7lb claim from C Stone Walsh he ought to play a very big part in this much weaker race. Ran well over the inadequate trip of 5f last time out and this step back up in trip should see him getting his head back in front. Last years winner Coumshingaum ought to be competitive once more and Iva Bett will be making up the numbers along with Gordon Bennett but the selection should have too much for these.

V Twelve 1pt win only 8/1 – Sole win came over this trip at the back end of last season. Was not disgraced in a couple of run over hurdles at the turn of the year and had a very pleasing run back in this sphere over the slightly longer trip of 12f at Salisbury 2 runs back. That run has been sandwiched between a couple of lesser runs but this drop back in trip on better ground could prove to hold the key for a yard that have a great record at the track 13 winners from 44 runners for a 30% strike here in the last 5 years and with a LSP of +26 over that same period. Blueflagflying and Zara’s Return will both look to build on their latest wins but both look to have been handed pretty stiff penalties given the company they faced last time out.

The form choice would have you go with The Dancing Poet in the hands of Oisin Murphy who was only narrowly denied by a twice subsequent winner in Blow Your Horn who goes in the 130 on this card so that may give further clues to that ones chances. The selection comes here for what looks to be a belated handicap debut and doesn’t look harshly treated on the pick of his 3 runs to date which came over this CD. And although he could only manage a distant 3rd of 4 on that occasion the winner has since gone on to win the G1 Ascot Gold Cup at last weeks Royal festival. Even that said its a little bit something or nothing as huis other 2 runs have offered very little. Comes here with the yard in good order however and is worth a tilt at the odds.
