Finished 2nd at Doncaster on only her second run and that looks the pick of her form, that would make this current mark look a fair one and with the yard in form, man of the moment Billy Loughnane in the saddle and bit of luck we could spring a little surprise with this one.

Stalingrad 1pt win only 9/1 + Fragrance 0.5pt EW 66/1 (4 places general) – Stalingrad is having a first run for the yad since joining from Grant Tuer for whom he had just been starting to turn the corner without getting his head in front. Looks to be on a very workable mark on his best form but has often struggled to get his head in front. Hopefully the change of scenery will have worked its magic on this now very well handicapped runner. Billy Loughnane takes off a further 3lb and conditions look ideal. Fragrance is a bit of a wildcard having largely disappointed since showing early promise under Mark Johnstons watch. Her best piece of form under new trainer R Harris came here but over the slightly shorter trip of 5f. Was beaten 4L that day with a subsequent winner ahead of her. That run was from a 15lb higher mark and if able to cope with the extra yardage returning here could well grab a place at huge odds.

Coconut Bay 1pt win only 12/1 – Starting to look well treated and will be much fitter here following her first run back after wind surgery at Newcastle last time out. Trip today looks ideal based on her 2 runs at Ayr recently and conditions look ideal too. Yard have only sent 3 runners here this term with 1 winner and 2 placed so they know what it takes to get one ready here and Callum Rodriguez looks a very meaningful booking in the saddle given his 25% strike at the track in the last 12 months.

Cuban Grey 1pt win only 7/1 + Storm Venture 0.5pt EW 33/1 (4 places B365) – Cuban Grey can be forgiven his latest run when racing wide throughout from the outside stall which had scuppered any chance of getting involved. Had previously been running well on the AW without winning and has been handed some respite from the handicapper for todays race. Has gone close at the track previously and run well on both visits to the track so that offers plenty of hope from a decent draw and a reduced mark. J Mitchell is 3 wins and 2 placed efforts from 10 runs for the yard offering further hope. Storm Venture is one that will need to step up on his efforts this term but had shown plenty of promise last year and a bounce back to something like today from a much reduced mark can not be ruled out for the in form Richard Fahey stable who have done well here in the last 12 months with a 20% strike and an LSP of +31.

Lady Gazelle 1pt win only 12/1 – A potential blot on the handicapper here today going from a lowly mark of just 52 for her handicap debut. Take off another 5lb for Millie Wonnacott’s claim and we have a potentially very well handicapped runner. Finished 7 lengths behind Radio Goo Goo on debut who has since won a class 2 off 86 and was a good 4th in the Holyrood at this years Royal Ascot. On her 2nd run she was beaten almost 9 lengths behind Cuban Grey who goes in the 300 (see above selection) and runner up that day was Rhythm N Hooves the winner of the earlier mentioned Class 2 Holyrood so there is much to like about her chances today of improving for handicap debut. Goes in a hood for the first time. Yard are 5 wins and 5 placed from 22 here in the last 12 months for a 45% place strike.

Toscan Genius 0.5pt EW 66/1 (4 places B365) – Of those in here holding leading chances in the betting very few stand out as having anything in hand and are starting to look exposed, the exceptions being Benaldid and Kehlani but both have questions to answer today so in the absence of anything solid we opt for one who could outrun his odds. Runs from 6lb out of the handicap today but has 5 of those negotiated by the very talented William Pyle so no worries on that score. Ran well enough last time out on a return to action following 27 months off the track in a race that has held its form since and any improvement on that today could see him grab a place. Steps back up in trip and returns to the AW so is another with questions to answer but his previous runs here can be forgotten now setting out for the new yard who know what it takes to win here on the new Tapeta surface so we take a chance.

Ring Of Beara 0.5pt EW 50/1 (4 places B365) – Both Liberated Light and Captain Haddock have to hold excellent chances here today but Liberated looks to have been hit by the handicapper and may be carrying a little bit of Irish Handicapper tax and Captain Haddock the 2021 winner has not been quite the same horse since that race and despite running well of late could still have a bit to find. Others look exposed and this could open up a place for the selection who has been running well over hurdles and can put his return to the flat behind him having not coped with conditions off the back of a lay off and could outrun these odds today. Has a previous run over a similar trip at Goodwood from a 12lb higher mark that would make him a player here today and that run was only a little over 12 months ago.
