Phoenix Beach 1pt win only 14/1 – Has a little bit to prove over this shorter trip as both wins have come over 6f but has not been seen to his best when attempting this minimum trip. Comes here today however with his yard firmly amongst the winners and having been freshened up can go close from what looks a competitive mark. Has gone close over the trip previously and will be arriving late on the scene to try and steal this one.

Young Fire 1pt win only 10/1 – By far the best treated horse in the race on his best form and goes today from a 12lb lower mark than his latest win which only came last August. Can be forgiven his latest run on heavy ground at Pontefract and can bounce back here with conditions looking more favourable. Allowed to drop into a class 5 for only the 5th time in his career and 2 of those have been winning runs. Gets the visor refitted again here too which has proven effective previously.

Detective 0.5pt EW 50/1 – Looks vulnerable from a win perspective despite being 2lb below his last winning mark as there are a couple of potential improvers in here but he has far less to prove as a place prospect as they do from a win perspective. Has gone well fresh previously so no worries and is fairly lightly raced for his age so may not be done improving just yet. Has won or placed in 50% of his 34 races to date, gets ideal conditions, weighted well enough so plenty to like at a massive price.

Arecibo 0.5pt EW 28/1 (5 places B365) – Not been seen in the winners enclosure for almost 3 years but that doesn’t tell the full story. Was still looking competitive on occasion last term from much higher marks. Admittedly he is one here that is probably on the downgrade whilst the majority here are going in the other direction but has moved yards, fallen dramatically in the weights and can once again get competitive and looks massively overpriced if able to do so. Looked hard to catch right last season but managed to place in good company from marks of 92-103 and goes here from 86 with a further 5lb taken off by a good claimer so could put in a big run for his new connections on yard debut.

Macs Legacy 1pt win only 6/1 – Placed in 2/3 handicap runs so far, most notably when tried up in trip for the first time at Hereford back in January when beaten just a length by a Dan Skelton trained 3 times subsequent winner now racing from a 30lb higher mark. Looked to be running a big race last time out before stumbling 2 out and is certainly worth another try back up in trip on better ground today with the yard amongst the winners and should go close in what looks an ordinary race.

That run was a step back in the right direction for one that had failed to complete in his previous 2 races and with that run under his belt he can step up again here now down in grade with conditions looking favourable. Looks handily weighted and sits 4lb below his last winning mark if back on track today.
