Hawk Ponteland Now Open Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle
Jingle Jangle Jet 0.5pt EW 33/1 (5 places B365) – Has not been seen to his best in 5 starts to date but should have plenty more to offer now stepping into handicap company for the first time and taking a much needed step up in trip too. Has finished a remote 6th on last two outings but they have come over far too short a trip looking at this ones breeding and both races look to be working out well and hold plenty of substance. In the first of those two races the selection was only 1/2 length behind one that has won since from a mark of 88 which makes this opening mark look fair.

Nyetimber December Gold Cup Handicap Chase
Stage Star 1pt win only 8/1 – Last 3 wins have been here at Cheltenham over a similar trip, the latest of which albeit just over 12 months ago was in the Paddy Power Gold Cup from a 7lb lower mark, but he had them all strung out that day in a field that included a couple of these today. The manner in which he won that day suggests that even this massive weight of burden today could well be within him. Didn’t appear to appreciate the Heavy ground here back in January so todays sounder surface should be a big plus, acquitted himself well in two runs since in big races, the latest of which was at Aintree, a track that he has not gotten on well with previously but still put in a stellar performance returning from a lengthy lay off and on the back of wind surgery. Should be bang there today in a race that this stable have won on 5 occasions.

K Ord Paving & Groundworks Handicap Hurdle
She’s A Rocca 0.5pt EW 25/1 (4 Places B365) – Bit of a wildcard selection and the safer bet probably looks like Jet Patrol based on recent performances but has come up short in the past so instead we take a bite at one with a much juicer price. Looked out of sorts in 4 runs over the summer and comes here with a bit to prove on the back of a 3 month break, she does however come here some 5lb below her last winning mark (10lb if we take in the 5lb claim from a very good jockey), gets ground to suit, has a CD win to her name and her yard are in good form at the moment. So for one sitting at the bottom of the market there are an awful lot of positives on side.

Sail Away 1pt win only 12/1 – Started last season promisingly and ran well in defeat in some pretty decent races before his season petered out somewhat. As a result his mark has now tumbled to one that looks far more realistic and one that could well be taken advantage of today. Looked back to some sort of form last time out when travelling strongly into the race only to make a huge error and come down 4 out. So to sum up, the -PPF form figures do not tell the full story and what we actually have is a very well treated horse who looked to be back in form last time out and should be bang there if no worse off for the horrible fall last time out.

Pasha 1pt win only 10/1 (Will Hill) – Unexposed filly who has run well in two starts over at Lingfield and switches to tapeta here for the first time dropping back in trip. The drop back looks a smart move having not settled when bumped coming out of the stalls last time out. Will have options from the 10 stall as she can lead but also goes well from off the pace. Could have more to offer and won’t need to improve much to take this.

Diamondonthehill 0.5pt EW 40/1 (4 places Will Hill) – Probably not the safest option to play here and will need everything to go right if he’s going to be in with a shout. That said he has performed well on turf at this level and above and if able to take to this surface could well spring a surprise from what looks to be about the right mark and level for this horse for his new yard who have been a revelation an the AW circuit since branching out 12 months ago. Their record here is pretty impressive with around an 18% win and a 44% place strike so the chance is taken that the change of yard may well give this one a much needed lift. So Quiet looks the main danger outside of the favourite but both have questions to answer.
