Pearl Eye 1pt win only 14/1 – Narrowly denied over CD back in September and stayed on for 5th from an impossible position here on Wednesday over the slightly shorter trip of 7f. Has the benefit of a much better draw today and the extra 1/2 furlong will certainly play in this ones favour. Has to hold excellent chances again here today if coming out of Wednesdays race ok and gets a massive 7lb taken off by a very talented claimer.

Boodles Darley EBF Maiden Stakes
Orionis 1pt win only 13/2 (Will hill bet £5 get £5 free bet offer) – Could only manage a tame looking 3rd on reappearance at Wetherby but the one pace in which he stayed on suggests that this longer trip here today will bring about some improvement. Bred to appreciate this test of stamina and the quicker ground should also play into her favour. Gets a 5lb weight allowance which could be enough to get her head in front for a yard that does well here and that has been in excellent form of late.

Space Legend 1pt win only 4/1 (Will Hill free bet from above race) – Acquitted himself very well at a very high level last term and will be open to further improvement this year. Still fairly unexposed and will be up against it with today’s favourite who despite running well in some of the biggest international races recently, only managed to win once in a Listed race. He sets a clear standard to aim at but offers less in terms of progression than the selection. This trip will be as short as we want to see this one run over but it could well turn out to be a race perfectly run to suit.

Vaguely Royal 0.5pt EW 80/1 (5 places B365) – A fairly optimistic punt but not one without substance. Has been running well for his new yard over hurdles against modest opposition since joining from the Gosden yard last year and disappointed on his only outing on the flat since his arrival when last of 3 at Southwell back in March. Stays this trip and has gone close on similar ground previously from around this current mark. His best form from last year would bring him into this but he needs to rediscover something and hope is pinned on the added tongue tie taking effect. Caballo De Mar 11/2 looks to still have improvement to com and could play a big part.

Let’s Dream 0.5pt EW 33/1 (4 places Skybet) – Lightly raced and still has plenty to prove here.. Sole win came over this trip but that was on soft ground as were his best runs to date. Breeding suggests no issue on that front however and if able to run to his best 3 year old form from last term then this mark today looks very lenient. Has a further 5lb taken off by the talented Warren Fentiman and arrives here with the yard bang in form. All of the market principals have questions to answer and hopefully the selection will be asking those questions from a very lowly weight.

Xenon Workplace Apprentice Handicap
Reel Rosie 0.5pt EW 25/1 (4 places B365) – Yard have won one handicap and gone close in another here yesterday at this May festival with the later doing so in the hands of Warren Fentiman who takes the ride here. CD winner here in 2023 and has spent most of her time running over hurdles since, with the exception of a couple of runs following a return from 312 days off track. The first of which almost resulted in a win in a similar event at Thirsk back in September. Has a good record in this grade and has to be respected from 2lb below her last winning mark.

Ladbrokes Get Rewarded With Ladbucks Chester Plate Handicap
Simiyann 0.5pt EW 28/1 (4 places B365) – Trainer Ian Williams always plays a strong hand in this race and having won it in 2023 for the first time he went on to finish 3rd with Law Of The Sea 9/1 from a 12lb higher mark last year and despite being on the downgrade since has to be watched carefully. The selection however is far less exposed under these conditions and despite some of the form should be capable of a big run here. Richard Kingscote takes the reigns and he has form figures of 2126 when doing so and i find it doubtful that he would not have had the pick of the yards 4 runners here today. Yards current form is a slight worry but the voodoo always has a breaking day.
