#RoyalAscot Day 3 Selections

Norfolk Stakes

Thunder Moor 0.5pt EW 25/1 – Its very hard to look past the favourite here in Walbank on the form that we have seen to date but at the current prices we couldn’t get involved and would prefer to look at the place market and one with a chance of causing an upset. There are plenty in the line up that will be entitled to take their chance too, Brave Nation, Crispy Cat, Pillow Talk to name just a few. The selection however is one we feel will have come on more than some of these for his latest run. Bombed out when well backed on debut but put that run to bed next time out with an all the way win coming away from the field despite running around and looking very green. Lumps of improvement are possible from this one and we find it very interesting that jockey of the festival so far Danny Tudhope opts to keep the ride over the Clipper Logistics runner Pillow Talk.

King George V Stakes

Surrey Mist 0.5pt EW 18/1 (7 places Skybet) + Schmilsson 0.5pt EW 22/1 (6 places B365) – Another race where on paper the bookies look to have it spot on with the favourite Post Impressionist but in a field this size with so many unknowns we opt once again to play the place market. The first of the selections Surrey Mist was narrowly denied last time out by Israr who is an excellent win prospect for this race, and reop poses here just ever so slightly better off at the weights and is almost certain to improve for todays step up in trip. Schmilsson the second of our selections is a little more of an unknown in the sense of he didn’t really seem to beat that much in his latest run but the style in which he did it was very impressive indeed. Has a piece of form in the book from last term when second to Derby winner Desert Crown that looks pretty impressive too, albeit he was beaten 5 1/2 lengths that day. Good form none the less. He is another who should relish this longer trip and connections have already had a winner here on the opening day with Coltrane. Franz Strauss is another who deserves a mention and is a possible improver here today.

Ribblesdale Stakes

Life Of Dreams 1pt win only 6/1 – This does not look to be anywhere near the competition it has been in the past and for that reason we have a pretty open contest. The selection ticks many of the boxes that would have been needed in previous renewals of this race and is bred for exactly this kind of contest. Was only beaten by Emily Upjohn (Runner up in this years Derby) last time out and she had the benefit of a run under her belt that day too. That form has to put this Charlie Appleby trained filly right in the mix. Very well bred and today’s step up in trip should bring about more improvement.

Gold Cup

Alignak 0.5pt EW 80/1 – We are taking a chance on the big outsider here who is one of the few outside of the top two in the betting that will get on well with todays fast ground. Has been running very creditably in defeat over in Dubai and it would be no surprise should this one grab a place today. The longer trip last time seemed to bring about a little more from this one and todays extra 1/2 mile could be just the ticket.

17:00 Ascot 16 Jun 2022

Britannia Stakes

Thesis 1pt win only 12/1 – Becoming a little expensive to follow and not quite putting away races that you would expect him to so far. That said the form on offer so far looks pretty strong including a close run with My Prospero who was only narrowly denied in the St James Palace here this week by Coroebus. That form put him right amongst it here from a decent draw in the hands of Ryan Moore in a race that should help get the best out of him today in a true run race for handicap debut from what looks a tasty mark.

18:10 Ascot 16 Jun 2022

Buckingham Palace Stakes

Total Commitment 0.5pt EW 40/1 7 places Skybet – Looked well held in this race last year and arguably his best work has come over 6f. Has won however over this trip and has gone well here from a similar mark in the past so is weighted well enough and gets on with the track. Comes here on the back of a fairly good reappearance run and much fresher than was the case last year where he had been kept going over the winter and looked exposed on what was his 12 start without a break. Yard have had a winner recently which is a positive and Hollie Doyle takes the ride with a record of 4 from 11 for this stable.
