Royal Ascot Day 2

14:30 Ascot 21 Jun 2023 Queen Mary Stakes

Princess Chizara 0.5pt EW 33/1 (5 places PP) – Impressive on debut when defying big odds to come home a comfortable all the way winner, beating home a far more experienced rival. Form doesn’t look overly impressive as yet but neither does any of the rest of the fields for that matter. Was keen on debut and will not get as easy a time of things today but didn’t look like stopping despite the greenness last time out and another chance is taken. Draw doesn’t look great on paper but yesterdays results saw some success from the lower stalls which is encouraging.

15:05 Ascot 21 Jun 2023 Kensington Palace Fillies’ Handicap

Tarrabb 1pt win only 13/2 – Has a couple of noteworthy performances under her belt from last term including a win over the now 107 rated dual Listed winner Queen Aminatu. She gave away 2lb to that rival making todays mark look like a very workable one. Her other run in behind the reopposing Crystal Caprice when a staying on 3rd having run a little keen early on also looks pretty decent. She goes here today some 8lb better off at the weights with that rival and following on from her pleasing reappearance run i think some improvement could be found today in the hands of champion jockey William Buick.

15:40 Ascot 21 Jun 2023 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes

Grande dame 1pt 0r £10 win only 9/2 (skybet money back offer) – A very lightly raced filly who was very progressive last term and could be open to bags of improvement on this seasonal debut for the yard that have won 2 of the last 3 running’s of this race. Will need to be ready and fit after the break but that is not a worry coming from the Gosden yard as he knows how to get one ready. Already a CD winner who has plenty of scope for improvement today.

16:20 Ascot 21 Jun 2023 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes

My Prospero 1pt win only 5/1 – Managed a very respectable 4th on reappearance in the Lockinge at Newbury a race that he can kick on from now stepped back up in trip. Looks slightly less exposed than the top 3 in the market and was not beaten far by both Bay Bridge and Adayar when they met back in October over this CD. The selection was squeezed up between those pair at a crucial stage and force to switch out wide before finishing off the race strongly, albeit a little to late and a clearer passage here could prove very fruitful. Luxembourg was gifted things all his own way in the Irish Gold cup and will be there for the taking should he employ the same front running tactics here.

17:00 Ascot 21 Jun 2023 Royal Hunt Cup

Outbreak 0.5pt EW 40/1 (7 places PP) – Holding his form very well this term in some pretty decent handicap company and fits the bill as one who could keep on giving as many from the Johnston yard do. A comfortable winner at Newmarket 2 runs back and still not fully exposed in this company. This race will take a little bit more than that one but he ought to be capable of outrunning these very generous odds.

17:35 Ascot 21 Jun 2023 Queen’s Vase

Circle Of Fire 1pt win only 7/1 – One that could hold further improvement now tackling this longer trip. On both of his last 2 starts he has done his best work towards the finish line and when 3rd in the Derby trial at Lingfield looked to be crying out for this extra yardage. Ran on very well from a poor position in that run at Lingfield and should be on the premises here once more given he can get himself into a good position today.

18:10 Ascot 21 Jun 2023 Windsor Castle Stakes

World Of Darcy 1pt win only 9/1 + Ganesha 0.5pt EW 50/1 (5 places Skybet/b365) – Very little to go on in terms of form in this race but the first of the selections has been impressive on both starts to date and only ran into a stablemate that was far superior last time out. Karl Burkes horses seem to improve for a couple of runs under the belt and he has forged a bit of a name for himself here at Royal Ascot with his 2 year olds in recent years. The second of the selections is a bit of a wild card but he won pretty well on his only start to date in a race that hold some substance having produced two subsequent winners since. Both look well enough drawn to be involved in a trappy race and will be suited by this stiff 5f.

Royal Ascot Competition

Hi All

Yes, it’s that time of year again where we break out the Royal Ascot Charity Comp.

Many of you will have been here before, pitting your wits against one another to see who will come out on top at the end of 5 fantastic days of racing. However for those who are yet to play along in one of our competitions here is a little more information on how it works.

Each day entrants will be asked to make 1 selection in every race on that days Royal Ascot card via our entry forms which you will be given access to through a password controlled link.

Points will be awarded depending on the finishing position of your selection. Your points will then be accrued across the course of the 5 days with the highest scoring player being the competition winner.

Winner = 4pts

Runner Up = 3pts

3rd Place = 2pts

4th Place = 1pt

Any NRs will be scored on SP Fav for that race.

Competition entry will cost £5 with the total pot being split 50/50 between the competition winner and the chosen charity. All monies raised from this years competition will go towards Betsy Williams Children’s Cancer Fundraiser. Betsy is the daughter of the Wales based trainer Christian Williams and is currently undergoing treatment for leukaemia and you can find more details of how this brave young lady is trying to help others over on her Just Giving page

To enter pay £5 via Paypal using the following email gordie1977@googlemail.com

You will then be added to the competition mailing list using the email connected to your Paypal account unless otherwise stated by yourselves in a message. On the Eve of each days racing you will receive access to the password controlled entry form where you will make your selections.

Alongside this years competition there will be a daily Charity Bet of £20, sponsored by Richard Higson who has once again thrown his support behind us with all winnings from these daily bets also going towards Betsy’s fundraiser.

Today’s Selections from #Brighton #Hexham #Huntingdon

The latest selections

Mr PC 1pt win only 15/2 (223 Brighton) – Has run very well at this track without winning including 2 placed efforts from 2 attempts over CD. Has proven very difficult to win with but runs from a 5lb lower mark than when just touched off in this race last year. Tom Marquand is a very positive jockey booking and he boasts a great record at the track with 26 wins from 106 rides for a 24% strike and has a LSP of +£161 so is also very profitable to follow here.

Spirit Warning 1pt win only 12/1 (323 Brighton) – On a long losing run and showed very little in a couple of runs switched to this yard last term. Has been off the track for a year now however and returns wearing first time blinkers. Also drops back to a much more realistic trip today with conditions looking ideal. Mark has slid to a very attractive one and goes in the very capable hands of Charlie Bishop who boasts a LSP of +£45 around here.

Roman Dynasty 1pt win only 9/1 (453 Brighton) – Has been beaten on all 25 runs since his win on debut at Wolverhampton so clearly comes with risks attached today. That said he comes here with conditions looking perfect and from a mark that is some 30lb below his peak. Ran well here to finish 1 length 3rd from 11lb higher last term and has been freshened up for this. Running out of excuses and has to go close with everything in favour today.

Landing Strip 1pt win only 9/1 (526 Brighton) – Will need to improve for his switch to turf on handicap debut but there is plenty in the breeding to suggest this trip, track and going will be ideal today for a yard that boasts a 62% strike rate here in the last 12 months.

Didtheyleaveuoutto 1pt win only 7/1 (720 Hexham) – Was not beaten far in the Silver trophy for his previous yard back in November behind Knapper’s Hill. That race has worked out pretty strongly since and despite not running up to that since cannot be written off here. Put in a very pleasing run last time out at Pontefract to finish runner up and returns to hurdles today down in the weights, down in grade from that previously mentioned run and does so with his yard bang amongst the winners with 4 from 9 in the last 14 days.

Lord Caprio 1pt win only 12/1 (850 Hexham) – The second of two runners for the above mentioned Ben Haslam yard who has a little bit to prove having disappointed last time out. Was reported to have finished lame however on that occasion and has been given plenty of time to recover here. He is 2 wins and 3 placed runs from 7 over CD so clearly does his best work here and sits just 1lb above his last winning mark so has plenty in favour this evening.

Sammylou 1pt win only 16/1 (430 Huntingdon) – Produced a career best to win from a 4lb higher mark back in July but has not run up to that win in 4 runs since. Has been rested however and returns in the hands of a very talented 5lb claimer which puts this one on a very attractive mark for the very much in form F O Brien (10/34 for a 29% strike in last 14 days) yard who have a great record at the track (12/36 =33% strike at the track in last 12 months). Yard also run Ask A Honey Bee

Saturdays Selections from #Ascot #Hexham #Haydock #Nottingham

The latest selections

High Fibre 1pt win only 5/1 (130 Ascot) – Lightly raced and ought to appreciate this step up in trip on yard debut for the very much in form Harry Fry. Conditions should pose no problems and yard certainly know how to get one ready first time up. Still very unexposed and in good hands. Saffie Osbourne is 2 wins and 1 placed effort from just 4 runs for the yard with the latest of those wins coming in the Chester Cup yesterday. Lots to like.

Sergeant Tibbs 1pt win only 8/1 (455 Ascot) – Slightly disappointing run last time out when seeing plenty of support but had previously put in a good run on reappearance behind Coco Bear. Gets similar conditions to that race again today and a massive 12lb pull in the weights with the reopposing favourite. Now sits 7lb below his last winning mark which came around this time last year.

Macavity 1pt win only 10/1 (215 Hexham) – A dual winner in points who ought to be suited by todays stiffer test. Still very lightly raced and open to plenty of improvement for a yard that does well in these parts. Has plenty to prove but its far to early to be writing this one off. Eased a little in the weights and gets a very good 5lb claim to help today. Yard are 3 from 6 here in the last 12 months for a 50% strike and 15 from 47 overall for a very healthy 31% strike when sending them here. They also run Fringill Dike in the 430 on this card.

Liamarty Dreams 1pt win only 11/1 (425 Haydock) – Was very much in need of his reappearance run as they often are from this yard and will need to put that run behind him if he is to figure here. He does however sit 1lb below his last winning mark, has a CD win already under his belt and acts on todays ground so has no excuses this time around. Yard have their fair share of winners here and have started to hit some form in the last 2 weeks.

Mulzim 1pt win only 14/1 (340 Nottingham) – Will need to come on for his stable debut and recent reappearance run but was not beaten far in testing conditions suggesting that there is still life in this old dog yet. Has fallen a long way in the weights from his heyday but todays company reflects that and he should have a race of this magnitude in him somewhere, whether that will be today I’m unsure but a chance has to be taken at these weights on this once 97 rated 9 year old (now goes from 79). Yard have done well with the handful of runners they have sent here with 2 wins and 1 placed from 7 runners.

Today’s selections from #Chester #Huntingdon #Thirsk

The latest selections

Div Ine Tara 1pt win only 13/2 (325 Huntingdon) – Very lightly raced 8 year old who on breeding will be absolutely crying out for todays step up in trip. Conditions look ideal and yard have been in blistering form of late with 8 winners from 25 runners in the last 14 days for a 32% strike. Yard also has a 35% strike at the track so the stats are really adding up. Kielan woods has a 25% strike for the yard in the last 12 months with an LSP of +19

Surtitle 1pt win only 10/1 (400 Huntingdon) – The second of two selections from the above mentioned Fergal O Brien stable who comes here with a little bit to prove. Has been handed a chance by the handicapper today and now sits on a very attractive mark. Conditions look ideal and a better showing can be expected.

The New Marwan 1pt win only 16/1 (710 Thirsk) – Ran well on reappearance last term and comes here sitting 3lb below his last winning mark. Has a bit to prove on this softer ground but gets the aide of a 7lb claim in a pretty weak looking race which should help.

Harrys Bar 1pt win only 11/1 (130 Chester) – Runs from a much reduced mark on the turf when compared to when running on the AW and that is largely due to his far lesser performances when doing so. That said a run in today’s conditions is very much an unknown so we take a chance in the hands of the brilliant William Buick.

Amor Vincit Omnia 1pt win only 11/2 (345 Chester) – Will no doubt improve for his recent reappearance run and is one that will relish conditions today. Has been eased a couple of lb’s in the weights and gets a big 3lb taken off by Pierre-Louis Jamin who has 4 wins from 9 runs in the last 14 days for a 44% strike, has a 25% strike for the yard with an LSP of +20 and has an impressive 17% strike at the track.

Urban Sprawl 1pt win only 17/2 (205 Chester) – Ultra consistent and was unfortunate to run into a very progressive sort on his reappearance. Will come on for that run and will take all the beating here if able to handle this softer ground.

Today’s selections from #Chester #Fontwell

The latest selections

Carmela 0.5pt EW 22/1 4 places (205 Chester) – Won at the first time of asking on debut last year and followed that up with a string of very decent efforts in some pretty hot company throughout the season. Will need to be ready here today as this will be a fast run race but it could well just be set up by the early pace for this one who is drawn well and could well close late with a little bit of stamina in her pedigree. Ground a bit of an unknown but shouldn’t be beyond her if its not too soft.

California Gem 1pt win only 15/2 (345 Chester) – Another one who has the benefit of a good draw today and will likely be up with the pace from the word go. Gets ideal conditions and any extra rain will only be of further help. Will likely come on for her latest run at Pontefract and ought to have a race like this in the lock up on the basis of what she has achieved to date.

San Isidro 0.5pt EW 33/1 4 places general (455 Chester) – Has barely beaten a rival home in 5 starts since joining this yard and has fallen a massive 20lb in the weights before today as a result. Has possibly not been seen to his best as yet however and is of far more interest returning from a break today and getting what look to be ideal conditions for the first time since leaving France over the right sort of trip. Outsider of the field but could well put in an improved performance today, however he will need to to be involved.

Mister Tickle 1pt win only 14/1 (615 Fontwell) – Another one who has fallen down the weights as a result of some pretty shoddy performances over the past 12 months but has on occasion offered glimmers of hope that the old boy is still in there if in the right mood. Completed a hat trick with 2 of the 3 wins coming over CD 18 months ago and the latter of those wins came from a 14lb higher mark than today’s. Conditions look ideal should they be as advertised and the drop back in grade today from this mark could provide the answers. Gets a valuable 5lb taken off and is one who shouldn’t be written off given the yard that he comes from at this track.

Forest Jump 1pt win only 5/1 (715 Fontwell) – Very low mileage sort who was due to run a few weeks back until the yard pulled all of their runners that day due to unsuitable conditions. We had him tipped up that day and have been waiting to see him declared again following a good run in his last race 72 days ago, a race that has worked out very well since. Step up in trip should be a positive and looks to be one ahead of his mark now getting ideal trip/conditions.

An Marcach 1pt win only 14/1 (745 Fontwell) – Has been largely out of form since joining Dr Newland and is another who has fallen a long way in the weights. Has put in a couple of efforts that make this mark look generous however and if returning from a break here today on song could well just put those recent runs behind him. Trip looks perfect today and the forecast rain over the course of the day should help this ones chances.

Saturday’s Selections from #Newmarket #Thirsk #Goodwood #Uttoxeter

The latest selections

Straits Of Moyle 1pt win only 10/1 (200 Thirsk) – Now sitting 8lb below his last winning mark and is of far more interest returning to turf here today following a spell on the AW circuit. Best runs have come on turf and in similar conditions so warrants respect for a top yard. Gets ideal trip and the addition of blinkers could provide the extra spark needed.

First Quest 0.5pt EW 25/1 (345 Goodwood) – 3 years since this one was last seen in this sphere and he will not be without hope for his new yard. Has run with credit on most of his recent outings including a pleasing stable debut. Sits 7lb below his last winning mark on the flat and this yard are no strangers to causing an upset down here in the South.

Saga 1pt win only 8/1 (325 Newmarket) – Was only very narrowly denied in the Britannia stakes at Ascot last June, a run that if able to be repeated here would put this one very close once more. Failed to follow that up with any conviction and has been gelded before this return today. Cheek Pieces go on too for the return and this one we believe has the potential to be a Group race winner sitting in handicap company.

Admiral D 1pt win only 7/1 (250 Newmarket) – Shaped pretty well on his return despite rearing in the stalls and giving away a head start. Will need to improve for that run but that is a very live possibility in first time cheek pieces. Looks fairly treated on the pick of his form from last year, has a great draw and shouldn’t be put off if any of the recent rain has gotten into the ground.

Crystal Delight 1pt win only 9/2 (140 Newmarket) – Runner up on his first two starts in handicap company. Both races have offered decent enough levels of form since to suggest that a win could be on the cards for this one pretty imminently. Has been freshened up with a short break and returns with his yard in form and Jim Crowley’s booking looks a positive one too.

Emir Sacree 1pt win only 12/1 (425 Uttoxeter) – Has a very good effort under similar conditions at Sandown sandwiched between two lesser efforts this term but that run if able to reproduce a similar effort would put this Nicky Henderson trained runner bang there today. Conditions look favourable and has been eased just slightly in the weights.

Dog Of War 1pt win only 13/2 (540 Uttoxeter) – Has had a troubled couple of years and returns here following a short break on the back of a wind op. Should that have done the trick this talented performer will be returning to a CD where he has won previously and sitting on that last winning mark. Of course there are plenty of questions but more often than not the Skelton’s have the answers, especially here at Uttoxeter.

Chasseral 1pt win only 8/1 (515 Newmarket) – A very comfortable winner of albeit a pretty ordinary race when last seen but has a piece of form on debut last year that would make this mark look like an absolute gimme. Will return to action with her yard amongst the winners and open to bags of improvement. Could well be a handicap blot today.

Today’s Selections from #Newmarket #Salisbury #Musselburgh

The latest selections

Bazalgette 1pt win only 11/1 (500 Musselburgh) – Still a maiden after 20 starts with possibly his most encouraging efforts going on turf. Returns to that surface for the first time since joining this yard and does so from a mark that on the best of his form would have her a good few pounds well in. Yard have been in decent form of late and Paul Mulrennan’s booking looks to be a significant one.

Grandmaster Flash 1pt win only 12/1 (455 Goodwood) – Gary Moor has won this race a couple of times previously and he plays a pretty strong hand again here this year with no less than 3 runners. The selections however is the one that is possibly open to the most improvement on recent efforts and could well be a very well handicapped runner from a very shrewd outfit. Latest run on the AW was an encouraging one and the way this race looks set to be run would suit this once 97 rated (now 77) ex J O Brien runner.

Power Of Darkness 1pt win only 16/1 (520 Newmarket) – CD winner who put in a decent effort a couple of starts back on the AW suggesting that he is in decent enough form and still has the ability to win an event like this. Returns to turf for the first time since joining this yard with conditions looking favourable and sitting 5lb below that last winning mark over CD. Does have a tendency to start sluggishly however so his chances could well hinge on getting away on terms.

Star Of Orion 1pt win only 5/1 (300 Newmarket) – Twice a winner here on the July course and but didn’t put in the same sort of performance when running over a mile on todays course. That run was in a Listed event over an inadequate trip so can be forgiven however. Providing not too much rain arrives before the race he will get his conditions and now sits on a very competitive mark. Will be open to some improvement too here today.

Todays Selections from #Ayr #Redcar #Salisbury

The latest selections

My Macho Man 0.5pt EW 20/1 (410 Ayr) – Back on the flat for the first time in almost 3 years having been on a long losing run over hurdles, has been consistent and has put in a few respectable efforts over the obstacles and will not be without hope in a very weak looking race here today. Still very unexposed in this sphere and ought to be capable of outrunning these odds from this mark.

The Cola Kid 0.5pt EW 25/1 4 places (245 Salisbury) – Runner up over CD this time last year but has fallen a long way in the weights having not been in the same form since. His last run 135 days ago was a little more encouraging and this switch back to turf today from effectively a16lb lower mark than the aforementioned run could be just what the doctor ordered.

Zyra’s Lioness 0.5pt EW 20/1 (455 Salisbury) – Yet to get his head in front in 14 starts but still looks very unexposed here switched back to the flat from a basement mark. His best efforts to date have come in the hands of todays jockey and the yard has a much improved record on the flat over the last 12 months with a 20% strike rate and a healthy LSP of +44. These connections have only had 2 runners here with 1 winner and 1 placed. The winner was from this yard.

Yazaman 1pt win only 13/2 (430 Redcar) – Runner up in the G2 Richmond stakes as a 2 year old and once rated 106 highly rated prospect. Clearly something has been amiss since and now finds himself with his 4th trainer and going from a mark of 58. Latest run on yard debut offered some hope that he could take a race of this magnitude and looks one who could go on a roll once gaining back his confidence. Yard do very well with these sprinters and this one is still unexposed over this minimum trip.

Sunday selections from #Musselburgh #Wetherby

The latest selections

Frog And Toad 0.5pt EW 28/1 5places B365 (335 Wetherby) – Has to be forgiven last run on yard debut having reared in the stalls giving away around 15 lengths at the start. Proved to be a pretty versatile performer last term picking up a couple of wins on good/good to firm ground as well as a nice placed effort on soft. Sits 3lb below his last winning mark and this yard have started the season well and it looks foolish to have been written off here.

Shark Two One 1pt win only 10/1 (435 Wetherby) – Has a few questions to answer over this shorter trip but sits on a mark some 17lb below his 2nd at this time last year for Richard Fahey over 1/2 furlong further in similar conditions. Has not seemed to have enjoyed a spell on the AW and could well prove to be a different proposition here returning to turf. Has gone best when ridden prominently in the past and could prove a tough one to get past if getting an easy lead.

Knightswood 1pt win only 9/1 (515 Musselburgh) – Didn’t really progress last term having shown plenty of promise picking up back to back novice events at the start of last season. The latter of those two races looks to be a fair level of form which would put this one on a pretty fair mark should he be able to kick on this term having been gelded. Still looks fairly unexposed and went well fresh last term.

Manigordo 1pt win only 16/1 (615 Musselburgh) – A dual CD winner last summer who if ready to roll here could well still be fairly treated from todays mark dipping in grade. Could be in need of the run which is a slight worry but has won on reappearance previously albeit back in 2020 with Richard Hannon. Was last seen running a big race from todays mark in better company and improvement cannot be ruled out either. 4 places can be found but we have gone for the win.

Papa Don’t Preach 0.5pt EW 25/1 4 places Skybet (405 Wetherby) – This one was 4th in the Flying Childers G2 back in 2021 for his French connections and won at the first time of asking for Charlie Hills when switching yards. Failed to live up to that promise however and has since been moved on again to a smaller yard who have managed to squeeze a win out of him on the AW this year. Has come up a little short in two runs since but could still have plenty to offer with conditions looking likely to suit here. Yard are 5/16 for a 31% strike at this track and Rossa Ryan looks a solid booking too.
