Should also be open to some improvement this term and could be ready to take advantage of this sliding mark now back in calmer waters.

As a result he starts this year on a much reduced mark and back down in grade to one where he is clearly more comfortable. Now sits 6lb below his last winning mark and has a record in class 3 races of 3 wins and 1 place from 7 runs. Will need to be fit from a break but a return to his form of 2022 would see him brush this lot aside.

Diamondonthehill 1pt win only 14/1 – Not being overwhelmed by the form of the short priced favourite i am inclined to look elsewhere and that brings me to one who ticks plenty of boxes. Record says that he is best on this quicker ground with all 4 wins and 5 placed efforts coming on good or quicker, with his last 3 wins on good to firm. Has placed twice at the track including one run over CD and was not beaten far in this race last term where he did not get the best of runs and his mark looks to be about bang on so on a going day could pull this off.

Princess Niyla 0.5pt EW 50/1 (5 places B365) – Its pretty impossible to ignore how well treated the Godolphin favourite, Rayat is in this race on his form from last year and his yards 30% strike at the track just gives further hope. but with 5 places available we are happy to take him on given his absence from the track along with a few other unknowns. The selection has not really set the world on fire but did put in a much improved run last time out and is one that has the ability if able to put it all together. Gets her trip and conditions today and is sitting on a very workable mark.

Prospect 1pt win only 11/2 – Looks to have had a similar schedule laid on as last season when also very similarly he started to come to the boil on his 3rd run with his next being his best of the season. His 3rd run last term was over 5f on this card where he was only narrowly denied from a 10lb higher mark. Proved just as effective next time out over todays trip of 6f and ran well in defeat in much better races to see out the season. This looks a great opportunity to get his head in front today. Likes quicker ground too.

Returns here from a 10 month lay off and drops to 6f on quicker ground for his handicap debut. Interesting that connections have stuck with him and if he has retained any of the early promise then this mark would be a gimme. Drop in trip would look to suit on breeding as would the quicker ground.

Looked up against it in big handicaps from a very inflated mark thereafter for the remainder of the season. As a result his mark has slid back down to what looks a more workable one and he put in a very pleasing reappearance here last month following a 208 day lay off. He finished behind two subsequent winners that day and was not given a race run to suit having to work alone for a long period on the far side. Should come on for that run and has been dropped a further 2lb for this. Gets ideal conditions and trip and a better draw too.

Looks bred to be a chaser however and makes a belated switch to the bigger obstacles for a very smart trainer who does very well at this track and in particular over fences. Gets in here from a very low weight and has the aide of a very talented 3lb claimer too in Jack Hogan.

Eric Carmen 0.5pt EW 20/1 – Things haven’t quite clicked for this one in 4 runs since joining from Ireland and as a result he has been eased 18lb in the weights as a result. He had been off the track for 560 days prior to his yard debut and i suspect they have been using his runs to blow away the cobwebs and at some point things will drop right. That could well be today as the yard have found form in the past 2 weeks and this mark is an absolute gimme on his last run over the water.

Northern Rose 0.5pt EW 20/1 – Still a maiden following 6 runs over hurdles but has a piece of form that looks well above this level back in November. She actually fell that day but was still in contention and travelling with purpose in a race that has produced 5 winners since and the winner that day Salver placed 3rd in this years Triumph hurdle. Its hard to say where this one would have finished that day and we suspect she would have been no match for the winner but this mark on that form looks laughable. Was last of 10 on her first run back following the fall but again that race has produced winners and she had been off for 3 months and probably not given too hard a time either. Had a couple of runs on the AW and returned to hurdles with a decent run last time out. Eased a further 2lb and could well surprise today.

On Springs (0.25pt EW 25/1) is also weighted to go very close if all is well returning from a year off and gets his ground too.

Blinkers go on today and is worth a try for a yard who have a 21 wins and 14 placed from 53 for a 39% strike at the track with an LSP of +18.

Will be entitled to have come on for that run and will appreciate todays better ground too. Soldat Forte (0.5pt EW 20/1) rates a solid EW chance given he has finished runner up on his last 3 outings, with all 3 behind subsequent winners. Yards current form would be the only worry. He is also very closely matched on a previous run against todays selection.

Won a class 3 race from 1lb higher last June and seems to do all of his best work on softer ground. Has plenty of form over this trip and this race could be set up nicely for one who will definitely not be stopping at the business end. Was far from disgraced in a much better race on reappearance and fingers crossed that he doesn’t get too far outpaced, which i feel will be unlikely given how this one runs his races from the front.

A reproduction of that run would make a complete mockery of this mark so fingers are firmly crossed that last run was a blip. Has an eye catching piece of from from Epsom last August and if not today then she will certainly be picking up a race in the near future.

Unexposed on turf so back up in trip today from a sliding mark is worth a punt at this price. Went down by just a neck from 6lb higher on turf last August which gives further hope today.

So from his current weight in a handicap race this potential group 1 horse at best could well spring a huge surprise if back on song.

Has has wind surgery since that run 58 days ago and the return to turf here from what looks a very lenient mark could be just enough to get this one back on track. Won a nice race at Newbury last year that would put her well amongst it here and was not disgraces when stepping up in to Group company at the back end of last season. A return to that sort of form would certainly put her back in with a chance.

Hard to catch right but on a going day this horse looks very well treated.

Fire Flyer 1pt win only 12/1 – Paul Nicholls is looking for a 3rd win in this race since 2019 and this one was coming along nicely before not getting home on bottomless ground over the longer trip of 2m 4f here last time out. Back on quicker ground today and the breeding says that should be ideal. Already has the beating of todays favourite Secret Squirrel and can confirm that form today with the yard arriving here bang in form as they do every season. Diamond Dice won at Ludlow in a race that has worked out pretty well since and could be one that has snuck under the radar at a whopping 66/1 with 5 places widely available.

Le Milos 1pt win only 17/2 – Won the Coral Gold Cup from a similar mark on just his second start for the yard back in 2022 and was proving to be a very progressive chaser for the Skeltons. Has not been seen at his best in 3 runs over hurdles since completing the Grand National last season and returns to the bigger obstacles today with his mark on the slide and conditions looking perfect. Has won at the track for his previous yard too. Bryony Frost has an interesting mount at a big price and is allowed to go from the bottom of the weights having failed to complete twice and finishing last of 10 in his last 3 starts. Back on his last winning mark now however and is another who gets his conditions here.

Was beaten 34 lengths on his yard debut for Willie Mullins but that run came off the back of a 270 day lay off and he was beaten by no less than 3 Cheltenham festival winners including 2 Grade 1 winners in Ballyburn and Slade Steel. Takes a huge drop in class here dropping into handicap company for the first time and looks to be on a fair mark. Likely improver for the better ground too. NON RUNNER

The stablemate would appear to be the pick on jockey bookings but he remains a maiden and is 13lb worse of with him today for a 1/2 length distance above him on that Nottingham race.

Young Fire 1pt win only 10/1 – By far the best treated horse in the race on his best form and goes today from a 12lb lower mark than his latest win which only came last August. Can be forgiven his latest run on heavy ground at Pontefract and can bounce back here with conditions looking more favourable. Allowed to drop into a class 5 for only the 5th time in his career and 2 of those have been winning runs. Gets the visor refitted again here too which has proven effective previously.

Detective 0.5pt EW 50/1 – Looks vulnerable from a win perspective despite being 2lb below his last winning mark as there are a couple of potential improvers in here but he has far less to prove as a place prospect as they do from a win perspective. Has gone well fresh previously so no worries and is fairly lightly raced for his age so may not be done improving just yet. Has won or placed in 50% of his 34 races to date, gets ideal conditions, weighted well enough so plenty to like at a massive price.

Arecibo 0.5pt EW 28/1 (5 places B365) – Not been seen in the winners enclosure for almost 3 years but that doesn’t tell the full story. Was still looking competitive on occasion last term from much higher marks. Admittedly he is one here that is probably on the downgrade whilst the majority here are going in the other direction but has moved yards, fallen dramatically in the weights and can once again get competitive and looks massively overpriced if able to do so. Looked hard to catch right last season but managed to place in good company from marks of 92-103 and goes here from 86 with a further 5lb taken off by a good claimer so could put in a big run for his new connections on yard debut.

Macs Legacy 1pt win only 6/1 – Placed in 2/3 handicap runs so far, most notably when tried up in trip for the first time at Hereford back in January when beaten just a length by a Dan Skelton trained 3 times subsequent winner now racing from a 30lb higher mark. Looked to be running a big race last time out before stumbling 2 out and is certainly worth another try back up in trip on better ground today with the yard amongst the winners and should go close in what looks an ordinary race.

That run was a step back in the right direction for one that had failed to complete in his previous 2 races and with that run under his belt he can step up again here now down in grade with conditions looking favourable. Looks handily weighted and sits 4lb below his last winning mark if back on track today.

Lallygag 1pt win only 11/1 – Not really got going this season including in a couple of runs over the bigger obstacles but comes here having been freshened up and does so with his yard bang in form. Was 3rd in the race last year from a 4lb higher mark and finally gets ideal conditions to get back on track today. Last years race has worked out pretty well and if the yard have got this one back anywhere near last years run he should be well in from todays reduced mark.

Gemirande 1pt win only 10/1 – Has a little bit to prove coming into this but could be one that is ready to turn the corner. Has run well enough in a couple of decent races this term and has done so without conditions in his favour. Will not have the same excuses today and last years 3rd should be able to go close again from a 4lb lower mark. Yard struggling for form a little but this one hasn’t done much racing recently and could have more to offer in what will be just his 3rd run since last years placed effort.

Betterforeveryone 1pt win only 15/2 – Looks to have improved markedly this term switched to the bigger obstacles and despite the 7lb hike in the weights for his latest win he might not be done just yet. Will need to step up on his latest win as this will demand more but was very impressive last time and todays extra yardage looks to be well within grasp.

Moon D’Orange 1pt win only 9/1 – Novice winner on yard debut last time out who looks well handicapped given that he beat a decent looking Paul Nicholls horse who won next time out pretty comfortably. That form would put this one a good 6-8lb well in on handicap debut for local trainer Fergal O Brien. Will likely have improved for that run and has been freshened up again for this. Big run expected from one of the least exposed horses in the race.

Full Back 1pt win only 12/1 – Comes with obvious risks attached having only completed in two of his last 4 runs and being tailed off last time out. Excuses can be made however and the heavy ground last time out would not have been ideal. Previously however was putting in a pleasing return from 14 months off the track in a very hot race at Ascot before coming to grief 5 out. Doubtful that he would have troubled the winner that day but that was a very good race and it did show that he retains plenty of ability. Has won over CD from a 5lb higher mark and gets more suitable conditions today should he be back to somewhere near.

Barefoot Angel 0.5pt EW 33/1 (5places) – A Group 3 winner as a 2yo who has been very lightly raced since. Just 2 runs last term when clearly not quite right, finished well down the field in a Group 3 here on his return last season before receiving wind surgery and was again a slightly disappointing 7th when last seen on handicap debut. Has been dropped to a handy mark however and Richard Fahey has opted to hand onto him which is a small vote of confidence for what is just a second run in handicap company. Trip and conditions look ideal and yard are very much amongst the winners at present. Lively outside chance with 5 places on offer.
